If you are travelling to America as a tourist or on a short term business trip there are new requirements for entry on the USA Visa Waiver Programme.
As of the 12th January 2009 it is now compulsory to obtain an a Visa Waiver for entry to the United States of America by way of an E.S.T.A. or Electronic System Travel Authority. These are issued electronicaly by the Department of Homeland Security.
The ESTA application must be filled in online at least 72 hours prior to travel to the United States and there is no longer the option of filling in a USA Waiver Programme form on your flight.
On successful application your Authorisation will be valid for up to 2 years unless your passport expires within this period.
